A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Reptile Room
By: Lemony Snicket
Hard Cover
HarperCollins 1999
Reading level: Ages 9-12

Lemony Snicket will say almost anything to keep you from reading his stories of the Baudelaire Children, a family that has seen more than its fair share of unfortunate events.

In The Reptile Room, the second book in A Series of Unfortunate Events, the children are placed in the company of their giddy uncle Monty, a charming and unsuspecting herpetologist. That means he studies snakes.

Initially the children cannot believe their luck. Uncle Monty turns out to be a really special man who makes them coconut cream pies, teaches them all about snakes and plans an expedition for everyone to take to Peru. But the Baudelaire children are not lucky - so their happy life with Uncle Monty is impeded, as always, by a series of unfortunate events.

Stay tuned for a review of Book 3 - The Wide Window.
