  • Baron van de Wetering (UA.26) VFD membership is questionable as the letter in which he is mentioned at the Duchess' party was written by an imposter.

  • Dr. Montgomery Montgomery expected to have known the Sebald Code; attended the local cinema regularly (2.24, 36); uses anagrams (see Tommy "Mommy" Eggmonteror).

  • Daniel Handler (UA.52, 77) author of "The World is Quiet Here," the crucial opening number of which is "Ring the Bell," and features characters: Defenders of Liberty, The Little Sebald Lad.
    (UA.97) "You [Lemony] must not write to D." This is most likely a reference to Mr. Handler.

  • Anxious Clown Waiter (UA.97) says "I didn't realize this was a sad occassion" to indicate that he is a VFD member.

  • Hector (7.59) "I've [Hector] been building a self-sustaining hot air mobile home."
    (UA.98) "...that self-sustaining hot-air mobile home H is always talking about build."

  • Prospero Owners (UA.156) Sign their post card to Lemony with "The world is quiet here."

  • Librarian (UA.146) The olad man with neatly trimmed gray hair and a mustache who turned up at the ends. Dresses in a flowered shirt, striped tie, tweed coat, and plaid slacks with a sharp crease, and shiney shoes.
    (UA.154, 171) Works at the Prufrock Prep library.

  • Vincent Francis Doyle (questionable) author of "Ivan Lachrymose: Lake Explorer."

  • Tommy "Mommy" Eggmonteror (UA.167) author of "The Mamba du Mal: A Snake that Will Never Kill Me" for Venom Feels Delightful Press. (see Dr. Montgomery)

  • Brett Helquist (questionable) (UA.183) illustrator; scheduled a meeting with Lemony Snicket at the dairy; signed his letter to Lemony with "With all due respect."

  • Ike Anwhistle (3.5) second cousing of Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire. Could whistle with crackers in his mouth, specialized in Beethoven's 4th Quartet (3.27).
