Lemony News

January 26, 2003 amazon.co.uk says that The Hostile Hospital will be released in the UK on 1 May, 2003.

January 17, 2003 A couple of new articles today, including one stating that The Slippery Slope will be released in late October of this year, and not this summer as amazon.ca previously reported.

January 16, 2003 Mr. Handler responded to that icky New Zealand Herald man, and the icky man printed it. Yeah for Mr. Handler! (available in 'articles')

January 14, 2003 'Articles' today on an Indiana Snicket library day this Sunday, as well as three Cuffie awards for Lemony Snicket!

January 13, 2003 Barry Sonnenfeld is no longer directing the Lemony Snicket movie! The film's theatrical release is now definitely planned for 2004. Check the 'films' pages for details.
Also, updates to: FAQ and Links.

January 9, 2003 Check 'articles' for info on whom to contact concerning movie auditions!

January 8, 2003 I found another New Zealand Herald article today, this one against Mr. Snicket's work. Also, amazon.com says that a paperback version of The Unauthorized Autobiography will be out in July (ISBN: 0060562250).

January 7, 2003 A new piece in 'articles' tells us the shocking news that Snicket is popular with young readers. I've also finally remembered to add a link to Brett Helquist's site.

January 5, 2003 There's just a new review of Mr. Handler's books in the 'articles' section.

January 3, 2003 There's a fun new interview up in the 'articles' section.

Publication date news from amazon.ca via LemonySnicket.net:

  • The Bad Beginning (Hardcover) - Collector's Edition, $19.99 ISBN: 0060518286, March 2003
  • Series Unfortunate Events #10 Slippery Slope, ISBN: 0064410137, July 9, 2003
  • A Calendar of Unfortunate Events: 12 Alarming Months, $12.99 ISBN: 0060562269, August 1, 2003

January 2, 2003 Happy new year! There are a couple of new articles up, but not with any interesting info.

December 20, 2002 A message board link has been added, and there's some movie news. Don't forget that a Snicket interview will be on TV in the LA area this coming week. Check 'articles' for details.

December 19, 2002 Yesterday, USA Today published a list of the top-selling books of 2002, and three of Snicket's works made the list: numbers 41, 75 and 93. See 'Articles' for more info. Also, there's a little film news.

December 18, 2002 I've posted some of my conclusions on the mysteries of ASoUE in the Unauthorized Autobiography section. Please do not ask me for any further explanation of these subjects, as this is all my brain could put out.

December 17, 2002 First, there's a Snicket Christmas story called "The Baby in the Manger" that is set for a very limited press run. See 'articles' for details.
Also, see 'film news' for further casting info.

December 16, 2002 More movie news, of course. Plus, a profile of Mr. Snicket will be airing on BBC 4 beginning tomorrow. Check 'articles' for details.

December 13, 2002 Casting call for Violet & Klaus! Check movie news!!!

December 12, 2002 Check the movie news.
I've also linked to what little I've html'ed of my notes on The Unauthorized Autobiography.

December 9, 2002 My Aunt in Colorado was purchasing The Bad Beginning, when the book seller told her that the prices of Snicket's books will be rising. I checked on Amazon this morning, and apparently all of the Snicket books are a dollar more than they used to cost, even the older ones. The Colorado book seller claims that this is because they are so popular. I guess evil Harper Collins wants to gouge Snicket's loyal fans. I think that's quite rude.

December 6, 2002 The official Stephin Merritt site, House of Tomorrow, reports:
" Stephin is also working with novelist (and accordionist) Daniel Handler, who also writes immensely popular children's novels under the name "Lemony Snicket". They are collaborating on a film-musical, tentatively titled "The Song from Venus" "
And in case you were getting too excited and/or confused, this musical has nothing to do with the Lemony Snicket movie currently in production. It's a separately wonderful movie.

December 5, 2002 Check it: fun film news!

November 27, 2002 The BookShow with Patt Morrison will air an episode (#125) featuring an interview with Lemony Snicket on KCET Los Angeles 12/22 at 7:00 pm and 12/23 at 10:30 am. For those of you not in the area, I plan to record it and transcribe the interview. Also, the show's website might feature the interview as a video file.
Here's a very funny review of The Unauthorized Autobiography, and check the gallery for new photos.

November 26, 2002 I've posted a couple of new links both here and on the films site. Also, a report on Mr. Handler's appearance on The Early Show is up in the articles section, but it doesn't contain any new info. I found a 'new' interview though: The Noe Valley Voice.

November 25, 2002 The Internet Movie Database finally has an entry for the Lemony Snicket movie, but they misspelled Mr. Handler's name. So I sent 'em a correction. Anyways, I've found an interview from earlier this month (available in the articles section) that discusses both the film and The Carnivorous Carnival.

November 21, 2002 New links here and in the films section: Unfortunately Mr. Snicket: A Webquest and Lemony Snicket's Informer of Unfortunate Events are pretty cool.
I've transcribed the set of Misfortune Telling Cards that came as a promo for The Carnivorous Carnival, in case you missed them.
Lastly, I've compiled links on WG Sebald.

November 15, 2002 I've added new links to both The Lemony Site & Verifiable Film Data, as well as a little article to VFD.

November 13, 2002 On February 26, 2003, at 8pm Lemony Snicket will be appearing at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco with Michael Chabon. For more info visit City Box Office, and for tickets call (415) 392-4400.

Our affiliate, Unfortunate Events.net received the following exclusive yesterday from an undisclosed ASoUE source:
"There's a chance the movie might not come out holiday 2003. It might be pushed back to spring 2004. This has not been decided yet, so keep your fingers crossed."
"The movie will be shot on location in New York- in the city and in other parts of the state." This should be interesting to see how they incorporate all the elements of Snicket's world into a NY shoot.
Many people have contacted UE.net asking about auditions. Sorry to say that there's still no news here, but our contact said this much: "I don't know if they're happening yet. But any kids who are interested in auditioning should try to find out through agents and casting agencies. It's extremely rare for a Hollywood movie to do an open call audition to the general public."

I would prefer a great film in 2004 over a poor film in 2003.

November 12, 2002 Jim Carrey Online and the Hollywood Stock Exchange have both reported that the film will hit theatres on December 19, 2003; and that production is set to begin on Sunday December 1, 2002. I have no idea where they got those dates, though.

  • November 11, 2002 There's an interview with Mr. Handler available in the articles section.
Verifiable Film Data is now up and running. Just click on the 'films' link from anywhere in The Lemony Site to get all of the latest news on Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events film.

  • November 1, 2002 I finally got up an entertaining quote and photo from O, The Oprah Magazine; available in the articles section.
